Where to stay:
Casa Joseph Zicatela - a beautiful adults only hotel at Zicatela beach which is in between .... The room was beautiful, spacious and had an amazing view of the beach and huge crashing waves. We did morning yoga on the property and had delicious included breakfast. Some suites have a private pool.
Beach walks felt safe and beautiful. The waves were way too big at Zicatela beach but it was easy and cheap to get taxis to wherever we wanted to go around Puerto Escondido and swimmable beaches.
Villas Carrizalillo - when we return I would stay at Villas Carrizalillo. The location above the swimmable and surfable (for me) beach, the views, the delicious restaurant and authentic and pretty style and grounds was perfect.
Playa La Punta is the busy surf beach area of Puerto Escondido on Playa Zicatela. Full of restaurants, bars and mostly surf lodges for accommodations. If you want to stay in to La Punta try some newer hotels like Mantra Hotel Boutique or Casa Borka.
Hotel Escondido - 40 min north of Puerto Escondido a more secluded and beautiful property.

What to do in Puerto Escondido
Rent a cabana chair, surf and swim at Playa Carrizalillo. There are a lot of stairs to get down to the beach and back up. Plan accordingly.
Sunrise dolphin tour
Enjoy the beach, surf and town of La Punta. Watch the surfers, swim if the waves aren't too big, shopping up and down the street stopping for a margarita on a bar swing and relaxing in the surf town environment.
Join the town on the beach for nightly gorgeous, warm sunsets. Grab a chair and cocktail at Bamba Bar or another beach bar for the full Mexico vacation effect.
